A letter from a Guest:
"After eating at your restaurant twice in the past
two weeks, I felt compelled to write you this email.
On Friday, February 4th, after a day of Skiing at Shawnee,
my wife and I went to the Shawnee on-site restaurant (Hickory
Licks?) for a bite to eat. When the staff there told us
they were closing for the evening, we asked them for some
suggestions on where to go (we are new to this area, now
living in Columbia NJ.) and they suggested Sam Snead's
just down the road. Off we went.
The moment we walked in your door we noticed a very warm
atmosphere and were greeted by gracious hostesses. We chose
to eat downstairs so we could take in the live music scheduled
that night, a great treat for us as we have lived in Chicago
for the past 6 years and have grown accustomed to mixing
fine dining and quality live music.
Our server that night was Elliott who was very versed
on the menu, well spoken, and delivered the perfect amount
of service to our table. When I asked him to make a suggestion
for dinner, he did not hesitate (many servers are not prepared
to do this). We took Elliott's suggestion and went with
the Filet and Crab Cakes.
First up was the tossed salad with southwest ranch dressing
and sunflower nuts, this was an excellent intro the most
tasteful Filet Mignon that was so tender, I could have
eaten it with a spoon. The Crab Cakes melted in our mouths
and we were speechless through the entire meal. Our entire
dinner and personal experience was nothing short of phenomenal.
My wife and I have lived all over the country, we
travel quite a bit and frequent the best restaurants in
Chicago, New York, New Jersey, as well as many other major
cities. We love to dine out and consider ourselves self-proclaimed
experts in fine dining. I told my wife that we
may have just gotten lucky, I have seen it before, go to
a place get a great meal and then every subsequent visit
is down hill. Our second visit to your place proved this
theory wrong, in fact, it blew it out of the water so-to-speak.
We returned the very next Friday to
test the waters again, same routine, downstairs for dinner
and music. This time around we had Susan as our server.
Susan delivered the same outstanding service we experienced
with Elliot, excellent knowledge of the menu, perfect
quantity of service and a loyal spokesperson for the
establishment. She had us try the buffalo shrimp for
an appetizer which were the best shrimp we have ever
eaten, period (how do they do that!). My wife also
tried a Margarita on-the-rocks from the bar, which according
to her, was from another planet. You can thank your bartender
who looks like Jane Curtains younger (and prettier) sister,
sorry I didn't catch her name.
Again, our dinner, a carbon copy of selections from the
previous week and overall experience was phenomenal.
We would ask you to please continue to do whatever it
is that makes your management of this establishment so
effective. I would match the food, atmosphere, and service
of your establishment up against any restaurant in the
country. Owning many of my own businesses and being employed
by one of the largest financial institutions in the world
for the past decade, I understand how difficult it is to
accomplish what you have done here - provide a perfect
customer experience. Thank you for that.
We have three small children at home and the time we spend
out, away from home, is very valuable to us and not to
be wasted.
We will return to Sam Snead's this coming Friday and with
high expectations and little doubt they will be fulfilled.
Also, to reciprocate, we are know walking advertisements
for Sam Snead's. Thank you again to you and you fine staff.
Sincerely,
Another Satisfied Guest "
